Trainer/Technical Assistance (T/TA) Provider
Up to six full time or part-time temporary positions are available. Staff will serve as a T/TA provider to tribal law enforcement and other personnel throughout the country. The job will begin with training in Riverton with presentation of the project goals and objectives and job responsibilities. Next, the T/TA staff will attend Department of Justice (DOJ) training in the Washington DC metro area the week of June 1, 2010 to learn more about the UCR (Uniform Crime Reporting) system, meet FBI and other trainers, and meet tribal staff learning how to collect and report UCR data.
Job Description.
The overall goal of this project is to assist and support tribal law enforcement and other staff in the collection and reporting of crime data on reservations. Many of these staff will attend FBI training sessions similar to the one taking place in the Washington, DC area in June. Your job will include:
Learning about the UCR system so that you can support/assist tribal law enforcement and other staff throughout the country who will be using the system.
- Participate in UCR training provided by the FBI so that you know the training provided to tribal staff, the FBI trainers, and some of the tribal staff participating in the training.
- Operate, in Riverton, a "Help Desk" by responding to telephone, email, and Web-based questions and requests for assistance made by UCR users on reservations.
- Travel, as needed, to reservations and/or "cluster T/TA" sites throughout the country to demonstrate how to correctly use the automated UCR system and to "trouble shoot"/find solutions to problems experienced by tribal UCR users.
- T/TA providers will travel to tribal communities and train staff to collect and report UCR data. After the initial on-site training, follow-up technical assistance will be provided.

Qualifications. While the following knowledge, skills, and experience are not required, we hope to hire staff with:
- Experience in conducting training/technical assistance, and/or teaching
- Knowledge of law enforcement terms (e.g., crime classifications-assault, robbery, burglary, felonies, misdemeanors), and reporting.
- IT/Computer skills (e.g., email, PC operating systems [Windows], application software [spreadsheets, accounting, Internet browser, telecommunications].
- Ability/willingness to travel to provide on-site support as needed.
- Ability to pass a security screen (e.g., no DWIs in last 2 years, no criminal convictions for the last 9 years)
Responsibilities/Tasks
A. Observe FBI Training. NATI staff must participate, as observers, in UCR training to be held in Washington, DC area, starting June 1, 2010. The training will be provided by the FBI. The overall purpose of your participation in the training is to:
- Become familiar with training goals, objectives, and content
- Meet and form relationships with other trainers (FBI and Bureau of Justice Statistics--BJS) and potential tribal participants
- Provide on-site UCR training to supplement training provided by the FBI to tribal law enforcement and other staff.
B. Provide T/TA as needed. Provide follow-up TA/staff the Riverton UCR Help Desk to support tribal UCR users who have questions/problems. This T/TA may include:
- One-on-one on-site TA
- Cluster T/TA sessions at a convenient locations to groups of tribes
- Telephone/email Help Desk support
- Maintain log of all TA provided (recipient, dates, types of TA, problems and recommended solutions).
Compensation. Varies with experience; starts at $14/hr.
